The Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) is a professional degree in Unani medicine. It is a five-and-a-half-year program, including one year of internship, that teaches students both traditional and modern medical sciences. To secure admission to the BUMS program, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria: Minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English in 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board
Minimum age requirement: 17 years Qualifying for NEET is mandatory for admission to reputed universities and colleges Preference may be given to students who have studied Urdu at the school level, as some Unani texts are in Urdu and Arabic
BUMS course fees are very affordable at Allama Iqbal Unani Medical College. the annual tuition fee is INR 2,04,000, as per state government regulations. In addition, students are required to pay an examination fee of INR 20,000 during each professional phase, which occurs three times throughout the course. This fee includes essential expenses such as university registration, an apron, a doctor’s kit (containing a digital thermometer, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, doctor torch, and medical kit), the first professional book set, digital library access, practical fees, and educational tour expenses.
Additionally, a one-time admission fee of INR 20,000 is required at the time of enrollment. Compared to other medical degrees, BUMS is a more affordable option while still offering extensive hands-on training and practical exposure in the field of Unani medicine.
